Orris E. Dement

DEMENT, Orris E., 83, of Springfield, passed away in his home surrounded by his family and friends on Wednesday, November 12, 2014. He was born on February 25, 1931, in Enon, Ohio, the son of the late Everett and Mary (Dennison) Dement. Orris is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Maria (Dellis) in 2009; and sister, Fleta Hoffman. He is survived by daughters, Pam Eggleston, Amy Bayne, Karla Reese and beloved daughter and his caretaker, Lisa (Ron) Fent; 4 grandchildren including special grandson, Neal (Sara) Davis and their children, Bailey, Kalyn, Hunter, Joshua and Megan; brother, Max (Joan) Dement; sister, Virginia (Kenneth) Teach; several nieces and nephews; and his cats that he rescued and loved so dearly. Orris is also survived by Dale Miner and his family whom he was like a father to. He graduated from South Charleston High School in 1950 and still enjoys seeing his classmates once a month for dinner. He retired from International Harvester after 27 years and is a member of The Union Club, The Eagles and 402 Retirees. Orris also loved playing bingo at United Senior Services every Wednesday. On Fridays and Saturdays, Orris could be found with his racing buddies watching and betting on the thoroughbred horse races at numerous parks. He also loved to plant and tend to his vegetable garden every year. Orris loved traveling all around the country with his wife including their favorite trip around Europe to 7 different countries. He and his wife were also proud of and enjoyed many wonderful years in the house they had JVS students build for them in 1981. Orris was the most thoughtful man you could ever meet, always putting others need first even when his own health was failing. He will be missed by all who knew him, including his wonderful neighbors, the Kissinger family, the Kuss family and the Boggs family, who watched over him helping maintain his independence and making sure he had everything he always needed. Viewing will be held on Monday, November 17, 2014 from 11:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m. with a celebration of his life beginning at 1:00p.m. Pastor Rick Clos officiating.
