Barbara A Parker

Mom was a gardener, so it shouldn’t be surprising that she is entering the gates of Heaven in the Spring. That is exactly what our Mother, Barbara Ann Parker did at the young age of 76. Surrounded not only by those at her bedside, but with all of you that lifted her with positive thoughts and kind prayers. She led a remarkably fulfilling life….she was full of faith, family, and most importantly LOVE! People were naturally drawn to her as well as, amazed by her. How could they not be? She was always smiling and kept her faith through all her trials and was truly an inspiration. How can some of us who are blessed with so much forget to be thankful to God? She was born in Kentucky, grew up in Michigan, but made Ohio her home (Go Bucks)! She is greeted at Heaven’s gate by her family….Husband (James Parker), daughter (Judy Pelfrey), son (Marty Oren), granddaughter (Sally Pelfrey), along with other family and friends. Left to nurture and tend her garden with much love here on earth are her children: Terry Weimer (Dave), Jimmy Oren (Anita), Tonya Mahar (Vince), Valerie Parker-Haley. She also leaves behind 18 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren, each one had a piece of her heart. She was blessed to have her “Sissy”, Veretta as her best friend. Veretta Whitaker and brother-in-law, Ed were a constant and a blessing throughout many of her good times. Their children, John and Howard and family were always there to support their Aunt Barb. She held a special bond with other family members, including Sister-in-Law, Susie Greenwood and cousins, Ellen Ethington, Mary Austin (Tom). She also leaves her dear friend since childhood, Norine Collins. Last, but certainly not least, Sister-in-Law, JoAnn Parker who she held very dear to her heart and cared for as long as possible – they were quite a pair. She was a member of The Potter House (formerly Calvary Baptist) since 1963. Her faith was strong and God worked through her by helping to guide others. Her trust in the Lord gave her strength to push her own worries aside, allowing her to face the world with that beautiful sweet smile and caring heart. Barb was a “papergirl” for most of her career. She started with Tri-County Shoppers News as the Circulation Manager which led to the Mailroom Foreman with The Springfield News Sun, where she retired. She enjoyed her job and made many lasting friendships – something to envy. She was also a member of the American Business Women’s Association. She joined in 1982 and served in many offices including President from 1989 – 1990. She felt strong about helping young women work towards career goals and offering scholarships through ABWA meant a lot to her. Mom was an amazing woman, it only took a moment to be drawn in by her light. In her memory when you are faced with life’s woes, smile…..better yet giggle! Enjoy Heaven’s garden, Mom. Until we see you again, you will forever be in our hearts. Service beginning at 1pm officiated by Pastor Ed Dungan. A dinner and an informal service by Pastor Jamie Noel will be held at The Potter House at 4 pm. A private burial at North Cemetery will be held at a later date.
