Joseph Arhur "Art" Thompson

THOMPSON, J. Arthur "Art" age 100 of South Charleston, went home to be with his Lord and savior on Tuesday, December 16, 2014. He was born on October 19, 1914 in Brown County, Ohio to the late Floyd and Flora (Dugan) Thompson. In addition to his parents, Art joins his beloved wife in heaven, Frances Thompson; 3 brothers; 5 sisters; 3 sisters-in-law; 5 brothers-in-law and 2 great-grandsons. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, children: Sherry (Tom) Pierce, Nancy (Dan) Spitzer and Steve (Sue) Thompson; a sister, Mary Bolin; a brother, Roger (Ramona) Thompson; 10 grandchildren: Lisa (Mark) Jenkins, Jess (Sandy) Pierce, Tommy (Wendi) Pierce, Joe Pierce, Darrin (Deb) Spitzer, Dana (Hugh) Alderson, Dale (Angi) Spitzer, Devin (Krista) Spitzer, Angie (Michael) DeSarro and Artie (Elizabeth) Thompson; 22 great-grandchildren: Quentin Neace, Megan (James) Davenport, Shelby (Josh) Jordan, Heather Pierce, Stephanie (JR) Nibert, Ryan Pierce, Ashley (Daniel) Sperry, Derek Pierce, Casey (Mark) Stevens, Cameron Pierce, Morgan, Claudia and Zachary Spitzer, Danielle (Jameson) Morrow, Jacob Alderson, Sarah and Nick Spitzer, Josie, Hannah and Lydia Spitzer and Johnathon and Caitlin DeSarro; 8 great-great grandchildren: Carter Spriggs, Lilly Stapleton, Jincii Pierce, Gage and Quentin Davenport, Pierce Nibert, Cali Jordan and Marley Davenport; numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Art was the definition of nice guy, never having a bad word to say about anyone and had countless friends to show for it. He had a great sense of humor and always had a funny saying up his sleeve. In the early years he farmed with his brother Roger and his mother Flora on N. River Rd. Later Art and his son Steve farmed 1100 acres and hung drywall in the off season. Art and Steve passed on this skill to a grandson Artie. He was a devoted and hard worker, and never knew how to take a day off. He was an honest man and will truly be missed by all who knew him. Art was an amazing father, grandfather and great-grandfather who had a heart of gold. A gathering of friends will be held on Monday, December 22, 2014 from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. at Selma Worship Center, 8931 Selma Pike, South Charleston, Ohio. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m. with Pastors Joyce Bailey and Doug Thompson officiating. Entombment to follow at Rose Hill Burial Park.
