Esther M. Ours

OURS, Esther Miriam (Hoak) Butler, age 95 of Springfield went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, December 2, 2014. She was born on August 29, 1919 to the late Ira and Olive (Grisso) Hoak in Springfield. In addition to her parents, Esther was preceded in death by her first husband, Harry Butler in 1978; her second husband, Frank Ours in 2000; step-sons: James Robert Butler and Harry Butler Jr.; siblings: Daniel W. Hoak, Lawrence G. Hoak and Eugene Q. Hoak as well as Velma Yoder Minnich. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her sons: Jay L. (Garnette) Butler and Tom L. (Sue) Butler; step-children: Fred Ours, Delores Peters and Eleanor (Don) Reynolds; a brother, Paul Myron Hoak; step daughter-in-law, Mary Butler; grandchildren: Chris (Angie) Butler, Renee (Chad) Cornwell, Melissa (Brian) Doepke, Jennifer (Chad) Wheeler and Amanda Butler; step-grandchildren: Curtis (Susie) Butler, Bonnie Pierson and Sarah (Doug) Lowe; great-grandchildren: Danielle and Ashley Doepke, Allison and Clara Cornwell, Cody and Dallas Wheeler and Ben and Breeman Butler; step great-grandchildren: Kelly Bowers, Terry Hottle, Trevor and Carly Lowe and James, Morgan and Sam Butler as well as two great-great grandchildren. Esther was a charter member at Hillside Church of God where she attended all her life; she was a lifetime member of WCG, sang in the choir and prepared numerous meals for church banquets and weddings. She was employed at Kenwood Elementary of Springfield City Schools for fourteen years as Cafeteria Manager and head cook. Esther lived her life surrounded by flowers having won numerous Community Beautification Awards. Esther also loved working for her son Tom in his florist and greenhouse business in London, Ohio. Esther dedicated her life to loving her Lord and her family. One of her favored Bible verses that expressed her heart was “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children (and grandchildren) walk in Truth.” 3 John 1:4. The family wishes to express deep appreciation to Dr. Dudney, the staff at Forest Glen Health Campus, and special thanks with heart felt gratitude to Myra Hoak for her many acts of kindness and tender loving care given to her “Aunt Esther”. Visitations will be held on Thursday, December 11, 2014 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at JACKSON LYTLE & LEWIS LIFE CELEBRATION CENTER and again on Friday, December 12 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at HILLSIDE CHURCH OF GOD with services beginning at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Brent Farmer officiating.
