Donald E Wood

WOOD, Donald E. "Don" age 88, of Enon, passed away Friday, January 11, 2013 at Dayspring Nursing Home. He was born on December 22, 1924 in Farmers City, Illinois to the late Harry and Ruth (Nydegger) Wood. Don proudly served his country in the United States Army Air Corp during WWII. Don was a truck driver for 38 years for KAT and retired in 1985. He enjoyed building model trucks, boating, and travelling during his spare time, and was an avid sports fan. During his time in the service, he was a pitcher for the European Championship baseball team in 1946, and he especially enjoyed watching the Bengals, Reds, and Ohio State sporting events. Don enjoyed volunteering at the Enon Church of Christ, where he was a longtime member, being baptized in 1980. He was married to the love of his life, Mildred Louise Conn on July 22, 1951 until her passing in 2003. Don is survived by six children; sons, Alan (Roberta) Wood of Springfield, Donald Wood of Enon, David (Sue) Wood of Enon, Thom (Pam) Wood of New Carlisle, and Bill (Pam) Wood of Fairborn, and daughter, Carol (Will) Robertson of Huber Heights. Also surviving are seven grandchildren; Amber Becker of Catawba, Bill and Michael Wood, and Julia Todd, all of Florida, Dawn Parham of Montana, Amanda Wood Hille of Texas, Heather Robertson of Huber Heights, eight great-grandchildren Jesse & Jordyn Todd of Florida, Michael Jr. and Connor Wood of Florida, Hayden, Anna and Audrey Becker of Catawba, and Caelynn Robertson of Huber Heights. Along with his parents and loving wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Russell Wood; sister, JoAnn Padgett, and granddaughter Renee Wood. Friends may call Tuesday, January 15, 2013 from 5-8pm in the JACKSON, LYTLE & LEWIS FUNERAL HOME, Springfield. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at 10:00am in the Enon Church of Christ with John Peterson, minister of Enon Church of Christ officiating. Burial will follow in Enon Cemetery. Contributions may be made to Hospice of Springfield, Elderly United of Springfield, or the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in his memory.
