Bertha L. Thompson

THOMPSON, BERTHA LOUISE (Mitterholzer), passed away at Springfield Regional Medical Center on Sunday, June 16, 2013. She was born in Springfield, Ohio on October 2, 1917 the daughter of the late Rudolph and Rosina (Kreutz) Mitterholzer. Bertha was a graduate of Olive Branch High School in 1935 and Ohio Western Business College in 1936. She worked for Crowell Collier, Gus Sun Booking Agency and retired from International Harvester Co. in 1980, after 25 years of service. She was a life member of St. John’s Lutheran Church for 95 years, where she was baptized, confirmed and married, a member of the Alpha and Omega Sunday School Class, was active with the Mary Martha’s, the annual Christmas Bazaar, Rainbow Table and Altar Guild. Hobbies included reading, crossword puzzles, playing cards and spending time with family. Bertha is survived by 2 sons, Thomas Kent (Kathy) Thompson and Larry Wayne (Sharon) Thompson; brother, Otto Mitterholzer of Springfield; 5 grandchildren, Jeffrey (Janet) Thompson, Centerville, OH, Jenny (Brian) Cornell, Fuqay Varina, NC, Thomas Scott (Jamie) Thompson, Stoutsville, OH, Lori Ann (Steve) Williams, Orange, CA, and Beth Ellen (Eric) Horsman, Greenville, NC; 10 great grandchildren, Bailey, Jessica and Andrew Thompson, Ethan and Lindsey Cornell, Isaac and Luke Thompson, Cole and Conner Williams and Elias Horsman; 1 great -great grandchild, Paisley Jade Thompson as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Herbert Thompson in 2002, one son Jeffrey Jay in 1957, three brothers, Rudolph Jr., Fred, and William Mitterholzer; and one sister Rosina Yerty. She was also preceded in death by 3 sisters-in-law, Virginia, Sue and Margaret Mitterholzer, and one brother-in-law, Arthur Yerty. A special thanks to Sally, Joyce, Otto, Villa Springfield and SRMC for their kindness and help.Visitation will be held Thursday, June 20, 2013 from 6-8pm at JACKSON LYTLE & LEWIS LIFE CELEBRATION CENTER, Springfield, as well as Friday, June 21, 2013 from 10:30-11:30am at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church (27 N. Wittenberg Ave. Springfield). A funeral service will be held at 11:30am also at the church with Rev. John Pollock officiating. Burial will follow at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens.
