Mary "Jo" Cassidy

Mary Joan "Jo" Ubry Cassidy, resident of Sarah Moore Home in Delaware, Ohio, formerly of South Charleston, Ohio, died quietly after a brief illness in Grady Memorial Hospital in Delaware, Ohio September 3, 2013. Jo was born in Fostoria, Ohio on March 14, 1925, one of six children and the daughter of Michael J Patterson and Stella Anna Huth Patterson. She graduated from St Wendelin's High School in Fostoria and then served her country during WWII as a U.S.Navy hospital corpsman, stationed in Dublin, Ga. Navy Hospital. After her service in the Navy, she met and married the great love of her life and father of her children, John G. "Jack" Ubry. They had three daughters. After his untimely death, in 1959, she graduated from Mercy Central School of Nursing in Springfield, Ohio. She worked as a nurse for more than 20 years at Madison County Hospital in London, Ohio. She was a Girl Scout leader and volunteer at Southeastern High School band boosters while raising her daughters. She married George E. Arthur who died in 1971. While working at Madison County Hospital, she met and married Charles Cassidy in 1979. They were married for 18 years. Jo was a resident of South Charleston, Ohio for more than 60 years, attending Saint Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. She volunteered for more than 10 years at Heartland of Springfield, baking birthday cakes for the residents' birthdays. She was delighted to be able to attend Honor Flight with friend Timi Neff. She was preceded in death by her parents and husbands, brothers, Richard Patterson, Arthur Patterson, Daniel Patterson, John Patterson, a sister, Margaret Jane Dell, her daughter, Jacquelyn S Myers, a grandson, Sean D Rice, a greatgrandson, Jacob L. Myers. Left behind are her daughters, Linda Shearer (Mark) of Delaware, Ohio, Kathryn Hart (Roger) of South Charleston, Ohio, son-in-law Howard Myers (Deanna) , South Charleston, Ohio, grand children, Matthew Roach, Mark Roach (Stephanie), John Roach (Dena), Jeffery Rice (Krista), Jennifer Brown (Tim), David Myers (Amber), great grandchildren, Maya Roach, Mallory, Tyler and Cody Rice, Abigail and Adam Myers, and Jack and Andrew Brown, many beloved nieces and nephews, and her best friend and traveling companion, Marty Tayloe. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, September 6, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in South Charleston with Father William Thomas officiating. A visitation will also be held on Friday at Ingling Williams & Lewis Funeral Home from 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Saint Charles Borromeo Fellowship Hall Fund.
